Seasonal change is inevitable, how do you navigate your life through the transitions of the seasons is not rocket science! As we are a part of nature and nature is in us, by aligning ourselves with nature create harmony in our life. Like increases like. The more you live in tune with nature, the more you become a part of nature and be able to move through the ebb and flow of life.
Just like there is certain produce being grown in different season, it makes sense to eat according to the changes of season. Traditional Chinese Medicine incorporates diet for the five seasons: Spring, Summer, Late Summer, Autumn and Winter. Regardless of where you live, eating seasonally is what nature intended which helps to maintain your health and energy. By focusing on eating produce seasonally, it allows your body to work closely with nature and keeps you in a healthy state of balance.
Do you have an unhealthy habit that you like to change in this New Year?
We all have our unhealthy habits and patterns and to some extends we know the effect it may impact on our health. But there is a tendency to easily drift back into it. Why?
Your body is your temple, you want to keep it clean so you can live in it comfortably and to allow your body to perform the best for you. Think about all the things that you feed into your body over the last 365 days, the good (eg. nutritious diet, balance lifestyle, yoga and good sleep) and the bad (eg. toxic food and alcohol, stressors of life, lack of movement and sleep). The kind of things you do on a daily basis gives you a choice to be the kind of person you want to be. This begins with how you treat your body. You can start the cleanse at any time and perhaps the New Year is the more ideal time for you to make a change!
We all experience emotions and go through them every single day, sometimes it can be like a roller coaster ride from feeling sad to joy, angry to happy, love to fear. Especially when we experience negative emotions, we may distract or try to push them away through food, alcohol, substances or other things to numb ourselves from it. Yoga provides a context to meet our feelings and build emotional strength.
Myofascial release has taken the “hot” seat in the anatomy world in this recent couple of years. It has been in the past been neglected as not so important, as seen as only a tissue in the body. The fascia is, in fact, one of the most fascinating discoveries and a big integration into what I teach in both my Yin & Yang yoga classes! Let me explain what it is, how it works and most importantly how it’s going to help you release tension and impact your life!
Chinese Medicine is a comprehensive and holistic alternative medicine to healing the internal body and the root of the issue. The ancient Chinese Medicine concern not only the physical body but also the subtle energetic body. The meridians health is an important aspect of the energetic body and hence can affect physical and mental health. To address any imbalances in the meridians, both Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture are used.
Life flows when chi flows. When our body gets tense and stressed, chi becomes blocked. So does our mind when it is scattered, chi goes everywhere. The goal is to have clear energy channels and promote healthy chi flow so our body and mind can digest all that is happening around us and at times of challenges in life.
All life is ruled by the dance between Yin and Yang. The duality of these two dynamic forces may seem to be opposite but they cannot exist independently, just like shadow cannot exist without light. Everything is in a constant state of flux, balancing and rebalancing into a state of perfect harmony.
Do you feel your energy is slowing down or easily get depleted?
As we are reaching towards the last month or so of the year, there are moments where we start to feel our energy is not as bright and fresh as the beginning of the year. Our mind is more drawn towards slowing down and party time. Just before we wind down, we still have to keep our engine running at its optimal form to drive us towards completion of tasks and projects. How do we do it?
Are you living a life that’s very Yang in nature where you are always on-the-go or trying to do too many things at the same time? Many people fall into this category and end up burning themselves out and if not acknowledged, they may gradually weaken their health and have detrimental consequences. Wouldn’t this take more time and energy than to have the skills to maintain our best health and enjoy more of what life can offer?
